HISTORY

Dae Han Moo Do Kwan (DHMDK), Australia was founded by Master Byung Kwan Song in 1994. The roots of DHMDK date back to 1961 in South Korea. Master Seong Shik Song is the founder of DHMDK and its reputation and influence still prevails in South Korea and in Australia, New Zealand, United States of America and Vietnam.

Master B.K Song established DHMDK with the vision of teaching the way of the sword in Australia. In August 2023, Master B.K Song passed on the DHMDK legacy to Master/Sensei Dwight Park who carries the same vision.

DHMDK preserves and upholds the traditional methods of kendo, where respect and honour are key values. Through the teachings, DHMDK endeavours to strengthen the minds of students by the means of disciplinary training and self-control.

DHMDK holds three training sessions a week and caters for all skill levels (beginners and experienced kendoka) with students starting from as young as 10. DHMDK trains with impressive energy and inspirits each student to give training session their fighting best. We welcome and accept beginners at any time throughout the year, so enquire today!

​DHMDK is an affiliate of the New South Wales Kendo Association (NSWKA), the Australian Kendo Renmei (AKR) and the International Kendo Federation (FIK).
